Goddamn Rip-Off Artists…

i’m one of those creatives who genuinely believes its all been done. there’s nothing truly new, and everything that looks new is merely inspired by or a new interpretation of something else. but there’s a big damn difference between being inspired by or paying homage to something and blatantly ripping it off.

case in point:

Studio1 – Sports package open from Angelsign Studio on Vimeo.

ARY News ID from moiz abbasi on Vimeo.

notice anything? the top piece (the original) was done by angelsign studio in italy, and the bottom one was done by some schmuck in the middle east.

now for those of you who are thinking, ‘wow those are really similar tom, but i don’t know if i’d go so far as to call it a rip-off’, i’ve gone through the trouble of creating a shot for shot comparison for you:

Shot 01
Shot 02
Shot 03
Shot 04
Shot 05

convinced? now, i realize that there could have been other factors at work: limited time/budget, client demanded something like it, etc. but if thats the case, you don’t show it off online and take credit for it. you just take the money and run. i mean, the guy used the exact same camera moves and everything. he didn’t even bother changing the damn colors. the sad thing is that theres really nothing you can do about it. and the more great work you do, the more likely it is that this will happen to you. its just really sad when you see something this blatant.

i also have to give props to angelsign for calling the guy out on his vimeo page, and posting a link to their original (its in the comments at the bottom).
