Transformers (Not So) Prime…
*sigh*
you know, i really want to like this show. i do.
*sigh*
its just really not very good at all. i can get around the sorta half ass 3d animation, and almost non-existent backgrounds. the movie-inspired caracter designs don’t bother me. even the writing isn’t completely awful. yeah, the stories are pretty lame, but ultimately, its a kids show. its no animated, but its not beast machines either. i think what bothers me the most is that for the first time since the original cartoon, you have the character defining voice talents of peter cullen and frank welker reprising the roles that they are perhaps best known for, and they have had almost little to no interaction with each other within the show.
in the original cartoon, prime and megatron were duking it out constantly. yes, it was usually over some inane scheme or ridiculous plot device, but the characters were truly arch enemies, and you knew it. they didn’t sit idly by and let their subordinates do everything. they had active roles in the conflict. but in transformers: prime, you’ll go entire episodes without seeing either character, much less on screen together kicking the shit outta each other. you’re lucky if you get a few lines of dialogue. the whole thing just seems like a huge missed opportunity. the sad part is that i’ll continue to watch, because i’m that much of a transformers nerd, despite bitching about it the entire episode.
guess that means i’m a true fan.
