9/11, Ten Years Later…

11Sep11

i feel compelled to post something today, due to it being the tenth anniversary and everything. but i honestly don’t know what to say. at some point it begins to lose its impact. every year, most of us sit around and ask each other, ‘where were you’. or maybe we’re listening to the reciting of the names, or to stories of those who lost someone, or who almost did; or someone who would have been on one of the planes or one of the towers if not for missing a train, or running in to grab the phone, providing that nanosecond of delay that saved their life. don’t misunderstand, i get emotional just thinking about it. all those thoughts and feelings come rushing back and my eyes start to water and my throat gets all choked up, much like its doing now.

i just don’t know what else can be said that hasn’t been already. i refuse to lessen today’s meaning by making some trite comment about heroes and defending freedom from tyranny, so i’ll just say this:

thank you to all those men and women who make our lives as americans possible. its a debt that can never be repaid, and we as a country don’t deserve you.
